With the release of their new album Three Kings and accompanying concert DVD, Dead Meadow are touring cross-country and overseas bringing their ’70s rock sound to 2010. The title of their new album is a reference the to the Three King characters the band members play in concert–cloaked spirits, wandering holy mystics.
All sharing a love for stories by J.R.R. Tolkien, the make-believe stories in their music come to life with this new set of songs. This band has been labeled many things but to Dead Meadow it’s not really about creating a new category but more about taking a genre and making it your own.
To name a few, psyche-funk-sludge, stoner rock, and organic-heavy-music have been attempts at pigeon holing Dead Meadow’s sound. Even though the music they play may be from a different era, their Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath sound is about playing what they love–what they were meant to play.
Playing together for over a decade, the DC-based band makes their third tour stop at the WOW Hall in Eugene on Wednesday, March 31st followed by April 1st at Portland’s Doug Fir.
Guests can also expect a special performance from the Canadian born, LA-based singer/songwriter Imaad Wasif who will be playing with them. Doors open at 8 PM both nights, show at 9.
