January 9, 2011

There’s been a flurry of activity on the Menomena-web regarding one-third of the Menomena beast: a Mister Brent Knopf.

And yes, it’s true. On Friday, January 7th, Menomena’s official web page announced:

After 10 years of fruitful collaboration, Brent Knopf has decided to part ways with Menomena to focus on Ramona Falls and other creative pursuits. We want to thank Brent for his vast contributions over the years and wish him nothing but happiness in all of his future endeavors. All three of us look forward to seeing you soon! The March US Tour will feature Paul Alcott rounding out the quartet.

The multi-instrumental Knopf was a founding member of the trio as well as the innovator of the band’s looping, compositional software, Deeler, that has been used to create all their music. Knopf now plans to focus on his “solo” project Ramona Falls (aka his only project away from Menomena), which featured some 35 musicians from Portland and New York on the 2009 debut Intuit.

As the Twitter feeds continue, Knopf also posted:

Goodbye Danny and Justin, I love you guys and the songs you make. I’m excited for what you’ll do next with Menomena. Thanks for everything.

And Menonema:

yes, Brent quit the band: http://menomena.com/ he’ll be greatly missed, but the show must go on. all 3 of us are excited for the future!
