Mississippi Ave Street Fair 2011: Dirty Mittens

Swapping spots with Nick Jaina on the Courtyard Stage (aka the Bar Bar patio), the Dirty Mittens looked good (Chelsea Morrisey with her white guitar and cock-eyed bowler, Patrick Griffin thumbing the smooth low end on a classic bass, Noah Jay-Bonn looking too-cool-for-school in his gray tank with gelled hair and wooden shades on keys, Josh Hawley deftly playing both keys and guitar, and the always enthusiastic Ben Hubbird far right getting sweaty on his guitar… plus the newbie, unnamed drummer stoically keeping the beat) and sounded good.

Opening with “Aracdia,” the opener from their debut record Heart of Town, and pimping their record release show on Thursday in the room next door, the Mittens quickly played a new song (possibly titled “Tear The Walls Down”?), which may be one of their most dramatic yet.

If you weren’t impressed by the outdoor exposure, we could say forget you… but rather, we’ll ask you check out their release gig (learn everything you need to know here) on Thursday night in the dance-y, sweaty confines of Mississippi Studios.

Goal-oriented: Discover a band every day. Ambitious: Catch a concert every night. Possibly deaf: But can still feel a beat. A PDX native passionate about rock'n'roll, electro-dance-pop, hip-hop, synthesizers, and things with buttons and lights. Tell him about a show. Send him a song.
