The Woods
The death of a music club diminishes the whole music scene in Portland. We’re losing The Woods, that charming Sellwood club fashioned from a former funeral parlor, with many of the amenities preserved, with the exception of the dead people.
What is it with landlords, anyway? They raised Music Millennium’s rent at their NW 23rd Avenue store, forcing them out. The store is still empty and NW residents deprived of a valuable resource. Now it’s the Woods.
In true Portland spirit, they’re throwing a free finale party on Saturday, January 7, 8pm featuring Sallie Ford, AgesandAges and Brothers Young.
The irony of holding a party for a dying club in a funeral home is not lost on anyone.
The musicians, music lovers and those of us who performed or covered The Woods thank Richie Young and everyone else connected with the club for giving it a great try. Best of luck in your new venue, when your decide on a location.
