Vancouver Symphony (WA) announces finalists for young artists competition

The following finalists have been named by the Vancouver Symphony as the finalists for its 16th annual young artists competition:

Piano Category

Ruta Kuzmickas (Age 14)
Clackamas Web Academy, Portland, OR

Fred Lu (Age 16)
Skyview HS, Vancouver, WA

Christine Wang (Age 17)
Columbia River HS, Vancouver, WA

Strings Category

Jean Choi, cello (Age 16)
Westview HS, Portland, OR

Natally Okhovat, violin (Age 17)
West Linn HS, West Linn, OR

Victor Williams, viola (Age 17)
Camas HS, Camas, WA

Brass/Woodwinds/Percussion Category

Maria Covarrubias, flute (Age 15)
Sunset HS, Portland, OR

Midori Samson, bassoon (Age 17)
Grant HS, Portland, OR

Daniel Vasey, alto saxophone (Age 15)
Columbia River HS, Vancouver, WA

Each finalist will perform “concert style” before a panel of judges comprised of professional musicians in front a live audience on Sunday, March 7 at 1 pm at Royal Durst Theatre at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics. Admission is free and open to the public.

Finalists compete for the following scholarship amounts: First place $1,000; Second place $750; Third place $250. The three category winners will then perform in concert with The VSO at Skyview High School Concert Hall in Vancouver on April 17 & 18.
