Astoria Music Festival offers Bach, Beethoven, a new setting for The Magic Flute and an appearance by local talent Israel Nebeker

The festival splashes out with a musical treasure trove each year, including opera, chamber music and symphonies,and in this season there’s plenty to choose from, including free lectures and children’s programs, during the busy fete, which runs Saturday, June 13 through Sunday, June 28.

Eddie Martinez spent decades as one of rock’s premier session and touring players, lending an emotive blues-inflected touch to several broadly successful records by the likes of Patti LaBelle, Steve Winwood, David Lee Roth and Robert Palmer [Duran Duran]. Martinez was also paired with fusion legend Jeff Beck to back Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger on 1985’s She’s the Boss, Jagger’s first solo effort.
