Willamette Valley Music Fest takes over UO campus

May 6, 2010

Do not miss Y La Bamba's bewitchingly breathy Luz Elena

On Saturday, May 8th, the University of Oregon’s campus will be filled with music, film, art, crafts, and a coed-sized playground (yes, including inflatables like a frog bouncy house and a more mature rock wall).

The University of Oregon Cultural Forum has presented the annual, free Willamette Valley Music Fest for over 40 years, and in 2010, they will host over 30 musicians across campus.  The entire festival will be broadcast live on campus radio KWVA (88.1 FM Eugene) or you can stream it here.

Music starts at 10 AM in the EMU Amphitheater with local Eugene acts and continues with bluegrass et al. in the Ben Linder Room and a singer/songwriter competition in the Buzz Cafe.

On the main stage in the amphitheater, PDX Pop Now! will host Portland indie-poppers Wampire, indie-folkers Sean Flinn and the Royal We and Y La Bamba, and zouk-proggers Joggers starting at 5:45 PM.

DC power-pop from Title Tracks and Eugene’s own indie Sea Bell start at 8:25 PM before the dreary, melodic Phantogram and three-headed hip-hoppers CunninLynguists close out the night.  View the entire music schedule with times and more info on each performer here.

The all-day freebies definitely promise to be less hippie than previous years (as long as you stay near the main stage and don’t venture inside the EMU), so enjoy your indie rock, hip-hop, and singer/songwriter folk from these fine Oregonians and friends.
