Oregon Music Hall of Fame announces new inductees

The new Oregon Music Hall of Fame announced its 2010 class of inductees at Jimmy Mak’s Tuesday evening. MC Terry Currier, owner of Music Millennium and President of the OMHOF stood before the red curtain and announced the winners moments ago.

They are:

Performers

  • Linda Hornbuckle. — She remembered how she used to look at the floor when she first started singing. Imagine that!
  • Black and Blue — Got started as Movie Star in the 1970s. Recorded for Geffen, produced by Gene Simmons. They will peform at the induction ceremony and reform in their original incarnation.
  • Kevin Burke — Known as one of the best Irish fiddlers in the world.  One of the many Portland musicians who rarely plays at home but is known all over the world. Which is why he wasn’t here.
  • Rebecca Kilgore — Jazz singer known for her collaboration with David Frishberg. A new addition to the KMHD lineup. Moved to Portland in 1979 where she became a professional musician.
  • Tim Hardin — Passed away in 1980. Known for being a progenitor of Folk-Rock. Recorded ten albums and wrote the famous “If I was a Carpenter and “Reason To Believe”
  • Denny Bixby — Played with Terry Robb in Portland and in the Creative Jazz Orchestra with Thara Memory who he thanked from the stage. He also toured with Jeff Lorber. He moved to Nashville where he recorded with Nancy Griffin, Chet Atkins and Rodney Crowell.
  • Peter Dammann — Talent Coordinator for the Waterfront Blues Festival and hot guitar slinger with many bands. Was in Paul deLay’s band for twenty years.

Industry people (Non-Performers)

  • Andy Gilbert — Heads Pacific Talent, largest booking agency in Oregon. Booked and managed many bands and festivals. Had a large hand in shaping the scene inthe 1970’s.
  • Mike Quinn — One half of  Monqui Productions, long-time Oregon company, known for insisting on booking local bands with the national acts. Co-owns Doug Fir Lounge.
  • Les Sarnoff — Late KINK DJ. A representative of the Les Sarnoff Foundation spoke.

Artist of the Year

  • Pink Martini — Need we say more?

Oene of the 2010 OMHOF Scholarship winners, fiddler Rebecca Lomnicky of Corvallis High School, opened the evening,  performing Celtic fiddle tunes. The Scottish variety seem to be her favorites.  She also plays piano and sings, but not tonight. Currier presented her with a check for a thousand dollars

The official induction ceremony will be October 9 at the Roseland Ballroom. Tony Starlight was introduced tonight as the MC for the show. His band will accompany. Lots of other bands will also perform.

Last year’s inductees were Dan Balmer, Bruce Carter, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Cool’R, Gary Ewing, Mikal Gilmore,  Buck Munger, Terry Robb, Bobby Torres and Sleazy Pieces.
