David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s all-star stacked concept album Here Lies Love about Imelda Marcos, the former First Lady of the Philippines, will finally be released in February 2010, almost four years after its initial premier in Adelaide, Australia in March 2006.
“Through a series of songs written by David Byrne, with musical contributions from Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook), “Songs from Here Lies Love” presents Imelda Marcos meditating on events in her life, from her childhood spent in poverty and her rise to power to her ultimate departure from the palace. In particular, the production looks at the relationship between Imelda and a servant from her childhood, Estrella Cumpas, who appeared at key moments in Imelda’s life.”
The album includes twenty-two songs on two discs as well as a 100-page booklet and DVD and features Santigold, Tori Amos, Cyndi Lauper, St. Vincent, Sharon Jones, Steve Earle, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond, Róisín Murphy, Nellie McKay, Kate Pierson of the B-52s, and many others. Vocals from Byrne are on only two tracks.
