Kickit Club: Atole brings Serious Business to Backspace

by Chris Young on February 24, 2010

Kickit Club is roaring back to Backspace on Thursday night after a recent hiatus from a 6 month run at Dunes.  Bringing the dance, noise and nonsense to the kiddies will be Atole, Serious Business, Neo G Yo, and Winston Lane.  This all ages event is the first Kickit Club at Backspace and the premier of Serious Business’ video for “Hot Damn,” directed by Christopher Diane-Peebles.

Jason Mampel of Serious Business told OMN about a serious businessman: “Minh Tran put together a live video to our song ‘Freezer Burn’ in preparation for the night.”  Check out the live footage shot at the Sea Shanty, Someday Lounge, Slabtown, Branx, Rotture, Burgerville, The Artistery, and Ash Street Saloon.

And download the ambiguously hilarious sex jam “Hot Damn” while we brief you on the facts.

Serious Business is “my kinda stupid” with dance moves, disappearing shirts, and flailing limbs.  Neon attire and cereal box jewelry required.  Navigate OMN’s past chat with the boys.

Atole destroys with electro post-punk, dance rock.  Get the deets, tunes and downloads from singer/dancer/masa masher Manny Reyes himself in the OMN interview.

“Tonya’s Song” off Atole’s latest EP and forthcoming début.

Neo G Yo is Danny Diana-Peebles of Serious Business… a solo, white boy rap project.  “He comes to the mic with a desire to share his feelings for balance, party energy and nerd thoughts, while keeping his strongest influences Slick Rick and Wu-Tang in his heart. With his main producers; Dragon and Winston Lane providing an electro influenced backdrop for his words, Neo brings his own style of Futro (future-retro) to the Earth.”

About Kickit Club:

Kickit Club is a club for fun-loving musicians and artists to share their unique talents with the world. It began as a weekly radio show on the Portland Radio Authority. The radio show featured the latest creations and personalities of rotating local musicians who shared a love of hip-hop and electronic music. It quickly became a place to freestyle and collaborate. As the weeks passed a core group of attendees began to solidify and projects began to spawn between them. The collaborations turned into what is now Serious Business, Neo G Yo and Winston Lane. Many of the Kickit Club recordings, including Neo G Yo’s debut EP “Tokyo Time” have been written and recorded at the home studio of photographer/cinematographer and Kickit Club member Minh Tran. The Kickit Club members eventually shared a desire to house their talents, as well as the talents of other fun-loving local musicians, at a monthly party. The party began at Dunes and successfully threw events featuring the talents of Forest World, Breakfast Mountain, Very International Love, and Double Plus Good, as well as some of its own talents each month. After many successful parties, Kickit Club is ready to aim its sights at an even more diverse crowd. Kickit Club will be moving to all-ages cafe/venue Backspace on NW 5th and Couch.

Get it boys and girls.  9 PM, tres bones ($3), Thursday, February 25th.
